On 14th February 2019, A Car filled with 300kg of RDX hits along Indian Army convoy that initiated a big blast resulting in 40 Indian Soldiers being martyred. The terrorist group of Jaish-e-Mohammad took the responsibility of the attack; however, India holds Pakistan accountable for its losses as Pakistan is internationally claimed to provide shelter to these specific terrorist groups.

India Decided to go with some diplomatic strategies in the start to put pressure on Pakistan. It waived off the tag of Most Favoured Nation from Pakistan, stopping any importing of goods and applying 200% export duties on any goods that are exported to Pakistan, resulting in sky-high prices of vegetables, fruits, and spices in Pakistan. India also decided to stop the flow of the Indian Rivers to Pakistan and stop providing its water by breaking the Indus Water treaty between the countries. These started escalating the tension between the countries and pressure on the Internal and External level on Pakistan.

4. The Arial Strike on Balakot by IAF

The Indian Air Force carried out an Air Strike on Balakot region of Pakistan well inside of the Pakistani Territory. The Strike was carried out at early morning of 26th February 2019 around 3 AM as the 12 Miraj Jets being a part of it dropped 1000kg of bombs on an alleged terrorist camp of Jaish-e-Mohammad in the region. The Indian Side claims that almost 300 terrorists were killed in the non-military strike and no harm to the civilians of the Pakistani army was caused. The Indian Government says that the intention of the strike was solely the self-defense and taking action against the terrorist groups.

However, Pakistan has different claims. The Pakistani official claims that there were no such terrorist camps operating and the IAF jets returned while dropping the payload in the forest after the PAF responded. The claims from the Pakistani government seemed to change during the day from no strike done, to strike done but no bomb dropped, to bomb dropped but no harm caused.

5. Pakistan’s Violation of Indian Air Space

On the very next morning of 27th Feb 2019 around 6 AM in the morning, few Pakistani F16 Jets reportedly entered the Indian Air Space and tried dropping bombs, as reported by both the sides. However, the claim differs a bit, the Indian side claims that the PAF entered with an intention to target India’s military bases but were chased out then, they even dropped a bomb that misaimed 500 metres away from the military target.

The Pakistani Govt claim that the intention of this was only to show its capabilities and not any military action, they stated that it was necessary after India’s strike a day ago.

However, the Indian Air Strike on Balakot was backed by its clear intention of self-defense and attack on terrorists, on the other hand, the Pakistani strike simply seemed like an answer to India’s strike.

The tension between the two neighboring countries started rising further from peak after the PAF violation as more claims started coming out from both sides. The Indian side claimed to shot down a Pakistani F16 raptor that crashed in POK. On the other hand, Pakistan claimed to have shot down 1 Indian MIG21 Jet in the POK and claimed to have arrested 1 Indian Piolet. The claims from the Pakistani side that seemed like talks later got confirmed by Indian Side and also once Pakistan released few videos of Arrested Indian Piolet.

The tension on the Indian and Pakistani side was equal as Pakistan had international pressure and stress of breaking the Geneva Convection Law due to any little misconduct, and Indian Government had to take a Backseat due to the Arrested Indian Piolet.

Both India and Pakistan are under serious international pressures to de-escalate the tension between the sides regarding the disputed state of Kashmir, the international community believes that single misconduct from any side can start a war that might even lead to a nuclear war. However, the international community seems to be with India as it stands against terrorism after the Surgical Strike in Pakistan in 2016 and the recent terrorist attack in Pulwama. Pakistan has already received a warning from the US and other countries regarding the use of weapons and to take serious action against terrorists inside its territory.
